I would like to be able to use wildcards to redirect old pages to the new page. Will this feature be available soon. I see that there is some work going on on adding this.

When it's done correctly. I'm starting to think that there will never be a happy solution for all. The best way will always be to add your own mod_rewrite .htaccess rules. Keep posted in #182512: Add Wildcards to Redirect Paths for the meantime.
