I already have uploaded .flv files. How do I display them?

Please pardon me if this has already been handled. I've scoured thru the issues and find nothing exactly handling my question. I already have flv files uploaded to my server and located in the root files directory. How do I get Flash Video to handle these files. I thought of using the [video] tag with the "file" attribute. I specified the location of the file and nothing seems to happen.
Is there a way to handle this?
