Mysteriously my update for em video is stuck on 34%. It doesn't give me a failed error or anything. It just idles at 34%... Not much else to tell about it.

So far I've disabled all other modules and attempted the update and no success with that, so I downloaded my site to a local xampp install just in case it was something about my host that was causing the problem, it still got hung up at 34%. Does anybody know what it's trying to do at that point?

Tried a few earlier updates on the test server. 1.8 seems to work. It's in trying to install 1.9/1.10/1.11 that this issue arises.

I wonder if it's ok to simply continue adding content in the meant time in spite of this update not being performed as no errors are reported beyond an irrecoverable http 0 error(id=136&op=do) when i hit reload on it... Not sure if that's to be expected.

Also would it be harmful to remove the latest version on the live site and just go with 1.8? In other words, downgrade?

This happened to me too. Mine was stuck at 98% but I saw nothing in the logs. I waited for 30 minutes and then went back to update.php to see what the updater thought still needed updating. Everything checked out updated there.

As for what happened on the site, I am only using this for vimeo videos. The two content types that I was using it on for videos lost field view settings for both preview and node pages. After being frightened by the default flv player, I was able to change the field views back to the thumb>lightbox full. All seems well. I have not tested adding content.

Well, I finally resorted to just uninstalling and then reinstalling the module...

whoops. related to #625822: _emfield_update_fix_data() can loop infinitely; same error. fixed now. please re-open if you still have problems. sorry about that...
