Come together with the global Drupal community in Rotterdam, 28 Sept – 1 Oct 2026. Sessions, contribution, connection, and Early Bird savings until 8 June.
So far we really like this module and are eager to use it in our production environment. If there is a new beta, RC or even a more recent dev version we would love to try it and provide the community with some feedback on it. We are happy to help.
We are trying out og_panels in a fairly stable environment. Of the approximately 90+ modules installed on our site. only 3 others are "dev". And those 3 dev modules only impact our staff authoring tools and not the public view of our site.
Currently we are only using og_panels on our development environment. However we are on a tight timeline and it's looking like we will be forced to push the dev version of og_panels to production. We are a little uncomfortable with this, but we feel we have no choice. We have already committed to a og and a panels based architecture. Thus we have cornered ourselves into needing og_panels.
If you are on a tight deadline (and looks you have a sizable operation with staff) why not
1) Submit patches and help get this for production
OR/AND
2) Sponsor the developer(s) to get the remaining work accelerated?
Good idea. We do not have a sizable developer staff so code contribution is very difficult beyond simple bug hunting. However I would not mind sponsoring if that would help. Although honestly I'm not sure how to approach sponsorship. How does one do this? who do I talk to?
Start talking to the maintainers mentioned on the top right corner of the module's main page. Moshe is also author of OG module and he can also provide more details if he is available or point you in the right direction.
joshk and populist are the two people behind og panels. They tend to work on things in spurts, as far as I've seen, and are busy enough that they don't get to do much in between the spurts.
og_panels is either in use on groups.drupal.org or is slated for use on groups.drupal.org and it should be a generally simple enough module that pushing a -dev version is probably ok for now.
Subscribing to this.
I´ve tried panels in the past with 6 version... and it´s been very buggy. I didn´t give it a try in a couple of months though.
I think that g.d.o. is using this module... and it´s a pretty stable site. But I feel somewhat frightened to use a dev version on a production site where the end users are the ones that will use the dev module.
Maybe a developer could use it without the chill sensation in the back, but I´m still pretty much afraid to do that.
OG isn´t abandoned (their issue queue doesn´t have the fastest response rate though), but it´s a quite important module here in the Drupal community.
Now, if you mean OG Panels... yeah, I don´t know... it looks quite deserted around here.
Yeah, thats what I meant to say...Og panels.... Right now I am trying to decide rather or not to try to use og panels as I am already using drupal with patterns. As a matter of fact I am trying to figure out how using organic groups is different than just finding a seperate way to issue permissions to users. It seems organic groups is a turn key solution to what really amounts to user management. And now that there are so many usefull modules I wonder if it is worth it to try to use og panels or just normal drupal with user management modules.
It depends on what you want to do.
I mean, I´m using OG in one site because I need people to join in private, different virtual groups. Sort of "mini sites" without the hassle of using multisite.
Unfortunately, as I´m not using og Panels yet (not until it´s beta at least, I´ve had SEVERAL headaches in the past trying to use this module when it was part og OG) all of my groups have the same front page structure.
Anyway, I think that g.d.o. in in 6.x now and it´s clearly using OG Panels, so, maybe I´ll give it a try.
Sooo, whats the problem with this?
Is this still maintained or active?
I'm trying OG for the first time, and it seems this OG Panel module is almost like a necessity item to go with it.
I am using it... I cant say that I can appreciate all of the functions yet... but I gues a lot of other prople are using it too... I dont know why it doesnt just merge with panels?
I read somewhere that they were together, then they separate only this module out of OG. @_@
Is it because OG uses better system for theming? If there is a better tool for the same function, I would like to know.
So far I'm loving this one. :)
@hiroaki I think this one was separated because for a looooong time it lived as a submodule and people were unable to use it because of Panels issues. Maybe Moshe didn´t want to work with this anymore...?
Anyway, in g.d.o. it still has some minor issues, so, I think I´ll wait until the stable release before using it in production sites.
This module is used in production on a number of sites and generally works. There are a few issues (many cleaned up today) that will help take it to a stable release. Now that both OG and Panels are very stable with a little more time we can get it up to speed.

joshk commentedThere are some menu issues, as well as final bugs with context. I'm hoping to knock them out within a week or so.

But when I try to implement og it seems the project is abandoned ? :(
