In the Signup configuration under advanced settings I have checked 'Embed a view' and I have selected the default signup_user_list.

This creates a "signup list" link which is perfect. However, the same view is also displayed at the bottom of the node (similarly to the built-in listing). Is there a way to prevent the view from being displayed at the bottom of the node?

Ok, so I was dense. First you set the view in place. Then you click 'Do not display a listing at all' under 'How to display the list of sign-up users'. So the listing will not display in the node but the link to the view will still be there. Nice!
