Hi,

I'm a Drupal fan and extremely happy with this powerful and feature rich multipurpose CMS. But somebody wants me to develop his blog website using WordPress. He will also be using an image and video gallery. His theme will be very different that I can achieve this using views very well in Drupal.

My query is very simple, is there any reason I should not do this in Drupal? Is there any specific technical feature that makes WordPress superior for this particular website?

Is there any Views and CCK equivalent module (plug-in or whatever) in WordPress?

Kindly suggest.
Thanks and Regards

I can't comment on Wordpress modules, simply because I don't know much about wordpress. Technically speaking: as far as I know, Drupal can do anything Wordpress can.

This is how I see your situation:
You, as a developer, seem to have a strong preference for Drupal, but that question is what you're going to do with it. I think you have two options here. You can think "client is king", neglect your preferences and experience and build a wordpress site. When you do that, your client will regard you like a carpenter: they ask, you build. They say 'jump', you jump. The other option is to start a dialogue with the client, find out what problem he needs to solve and probably convince him that Drupal is the better tool for the job (if it is). They say 'jump?', you say 'jump is okay, but a backflip is better'. If you do it right, the client will see you as a consultant, which will probably make your work more interesting and it might pay more.

Thanks Marc, yes, it makes sense.

Just hoping if anybody, who has tried WordPress as well, can throw some light on it.

I must say that for small jobs WP is really amazing. For a non-technical user it is probably the perfect solution. Drupal, from my admittedly limited experience, is powerful - but that comes with a price in that the user must learn the system. WP makes it as easy to build a blog as it is to write an email in Gmail. Of course you wouldn't write a book in Gmail, so that's when you'd go for Drupal. Not sure if that makes as much sense written as it does in my head, but for a blog (or even a simple CMS) WP is the best solution. Ultimately, the blogger in question won't be happy in a year when their friends all have easy-to-update WP blogs with cool plug-ins and they need to hire a developer to add similar functionality for their Drupal site.

Thanks Saddet for the valuable suggestions. I'll clear the requirement once again and choose the right platform as suggest by you and Marc.

Wordpress allows for the same control from a Drupal installation with CCK and Views by default. It does this and also adds a very easy to use administrative interface. I would recommend WordPress over Drupal for delivery to a site owner that you want to be self-sufficient. I am only considering Drupal installations for projects which require management of multiple websites and large numbers of content contibutors.

Thanks David,

Sorry for not checking this post earlier, thank you so much for replying and mentioning a powerful feature (a must have for all CMSs) that makes life easier.
