Hi all:

Bit of a newbie having an issue hoping someone can help me with, with site index info not showing up in Google and Yahoo.

I've installed version 6.x-1.1, and it created a site map without problem (http://www.greenjobsguide.org/sitemap.xml). I set up a site profile with Google Webmaster and Yahoo SiteExplorer, followed the directions to download the authentication key pages and uploaded them to my site root, then put the key information and file information in the XML sitemap admin panel.

I ran cron, and just for good measure went to tools in XML sitemap admin panel and re-sent the sitemap to Google and Yahoo. Log report shows they were both submitted successfully. After an hour or so, went back to Google and Yahoo panels for my site, but they have no information about the site.

Am I just being impatient? Did a pretty comprehensive search trying to find how long it usually takes for data to show up in those tools after uploading a sitemap, but found nothing. Does it take a day usually?

You don't want to both have a file in the root directory and fill in the verification data within xmlsitemap. Leave those settings empty and you should be fine. Google has recently modified its requirements and you will be better served with the hard file rather than the soft file. Also xmlsitemap has moved to requiring the site_verify module for this action.

Marking as fixed since answers were provided. If your site's haven't been at least confirmed by the engines or you're getting errors when submitting your sitemap.xml, let us know. Otherwise the rest is up to the search engines. :)

Hi,

I am experiencing the same issue, the logs say submitted successfully but when checking webmaster tools on google theres not sitemaps submitted. They should be there ive had this working for a few weeks now.

What does Google's tools say? Any errors listed? Is your site verified properly? Note that the verification process for Google changed the first week of October 2009. We encourage now the use of the Site Verification module instead of the verification fields of xmlsitemap. Reopen the issue if the site verification isn't the problem.
