I have tried to tick off the disabled button in the comments section of Edit Content Story screen, but it doesn't seem to work.

Am I doing something wrong? Has Anybody come across this issue before?

Well standart drupal stuff should work here.
Edit content type you want and in Default comment setting: Disabled.

Note: Existing content of that type will not be affected by doing so you have to go and edit comment settings by node.
