Hello Drupal users,
If you know someone in Sydney, Australia who wants to learn more about Drupal and PHP, send me an email.

I am running free training on Drupal mixed with professional training on PHP in Sydney, Australia. Suitable for people who know HTML but not PHP and want to take more control of their Web site development.

Hello Anshul,
The Drupal site has some online training in the form of "how to" articles and there is a growing range of online tutorials. I currently offer person to person training because it allows faster development of individuals.

Hello Naren,
ASP to PHP conversions are popular. I conducted several and coached a number of people through conversions. PHP is easier to learn and support compared to ASP.

Hi Peter,

I didn't realise you were in Sydney - I thought there were no other serious Drupal people in Sydney! I'm very glad to learn that I was wrong. Unfortunately, you missed the first ever Aussie Drupal meetup in Melbourne last weekend (it was awesome).

I have some experience in Drupal training, as I did some one-on-one Drupal teaching for a web designer / graphic designer, a few months ago. I went through installation, configuration, adding contrib modules, and a bit of custom theme design. I'd be interested in helping you, or even in joining forces with you, to conduct some Drupal training in Sydney. We definitely need more people involved around here! Feel free to contact me about this.

Also, I strongly recommend that you join the Drupal Australia group on the new Drupal Groups website. This is where you'll find out about future Drupal events in Australia, and it would also be the best place to post about any events (such as training sessions) that you may organise yourself.

hello.

is registration to the Drupal australia group by moderators approval only? i tried using my drupal info and it booted me out and then tried to register and nothing has been sent yet.

I'm in northern NSW and very interested in anything Drupal/Australia as I employ Drupal with several clients (list grows every week)

cheers, ekendra

Peter - I'm based in northern NSW and fly to Sydney regularly - about once a month. I'm fairly new to Drupal and keen to know more, in particular I am interested in theming Drupal.

Hey,

I'm in sydney and definitely interested in whatever training your doing. I've been doing drupal on the side for awhile now, but I'd definitely like to learn the proper way to do things.

I'm in Melbourne, but depending on pricepoint, content, timing I would be prepared to fly to Sydney for the day for the event.

G'day Sammy

I would be interested in any Drupal training sessions happening in Sydney.

I am also interested in contacting Sydney based Drupal developers, who may be able to assist me as contractors on the the folling project...

Yindi Systems are now building an application on Drupal and MySQL to assist high school and university students to book tutorial sessions with tutors who have the subject expertise they need help with.

I have got as far as specifying the functionality of my system. Now I am looking for existing applications that could provide "building blocks" for my system. Parts of my solution have a lot in common with applications like booking theatre tickets:

* sub-system for registering students into the system, and defining their education needs profile
* sub-system for registering tutors into the system, including Criminal Record Checks
* an inventory of time slots needs to be maintained by each tutor registered in the system
* a sub-system for short-listing tutors who match the education needs of a student
* a sub-system for identifying time slots available from the short-listed tutors
* time slots have to be removed from the inventory once a student has booked a time slot that has been published by a tutor
* ideally tutors would be able to publish their availability via an iCal compliant calendar module
* students will need to pay a booking fee, using an existing shopping cart system

I dont want to re-invent the wheel, if "building blocks" for my application are available via a GPL licence. I have worked long enough in the UNIX/LINUX community, since 1984, to be a big fan of community based software. I would be interested to hear from other organisations who have experience that could be relevant to my business requirement, and of course to share the bits of code that we have to develop ourselves.

Cronline is for one or two people who want to learn PHP, Ajax, and delve into the admin part of Drupal. You need to understand Javascript and get to Wahroonga between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm for a few Saturdays. June 3 and 17 would be ideal. I will send out email to people who have contacted me.

Great; would you be interested in coming to Melbourne sometime (perhaps in the Spring), to deliver something similar? If so perhaps we could begin to arrange something.

John

I am happy to visit Melbourne in Spring after the snow melts off the tundra, the polar bears retreat, and ..., sorry, wrong country.

Yeah, Melbourne. Koko Black. We can celebrate the success of the training sessions at Koko Black. Or we can hold the sessions at Koko Black and have 25 courses of chocolate served throughout the day. Chilli in dark chocolate. Mmmmm.....

The week including October 9 is a good time for me to be in Melbourne.

Enjoyed meeting you and your relaxed presentation style. Look forward to Day 2 next weekend. Just a thought. Do you know of any books to help novices like me estimate costings for Drupal projects? i have a project which I mentioned that which will follow up with you when I see you next

I would need a Tardis to visit Victoria BC instead of AD. :-)

PHP for people who know HTML and a little Javascript. July 1, 15, 29, and August 12. $250. Bring a notebook computer. Limit 5 students.

The course is ideal for people who want to know PHP to augment a HTML based Web site. The course includes tea/coffee/broadband access/mints.

If you are going to attend one of my free courses on Drupal and work at the PHP level, either creating modules, coding theme changes or just want to understand that strange stuff between <?php and ?>, then start with this course.

Not sure what this has to do with an announcement about Australia but:

Documentation -> Getting Started -> Drupal 6 -> Install Drupal 6.x

There's also an INSTALL.txt file included with every drupal download.

Hi Peter

Are you running any more free courses in Sydney?

I only know a little html, css and php, and mainly cut and paste code, so I'd be very interested in a free course in a small group.

I live in Sydney.

How about something on July 10. I have broadband at Wahroonga. Somewhere more central might be good. Everyone bring a laptop. By the end of the day you should walk away with a working Drupal Web site.

I will throw in free use of some hosting and a domain name for a month so you can experiment on a live site. I normally set people up with a Web site on their own computer so you can experiment without upload lag. An online site lets you show the result to other people when you ask for support. Follow up will be easier.

You can then attend Drupalcamp Sydney 2010 on July 17 & 18 to cover advanced topics. You will know all the terminology and how it fits together.

The workshop is useful for people who are looking at Drupal and want to take a test drive. If someone has a nice (as in access to good broadband and great espresso) venue in the city, I could also run the workshop on a weekday, 13th, 14th, or 15th.

webbirdmedia’s picture

Hi Peter,

I'd be very interested in attending your July 10 training session.

I'm on the southern side of sydney buy happy to travel accross with laptop.

Let me know details.
best, Joanna

peterx’s picture

10:00am - 4~5:00pm. Broadband through a D-link and/or Netgear router. 802.11b/g/n. There is a good coffee cafe 3 minutes walk (our espresso machine died). I can also plug in Gigabit Ethernet. A practical limit will be 5 people around our table.

webbirdmedia’s picture

Hi Peter.

From 10am this Saturday - Is that correct?

I have something on first thing in the morning so may not be able to get there until around 11am. Is that going to be a big problem?
best, Joanna

peterx’s picture

10:00 - 11:00 may cover the basics of setting up a Web site for someone who is new to content management and Drupal. You already have a Drupal site.
The actual content will depend on the experience of the students. If everyone has installed Drupal and has a working site, we will dive straight into more detail.

webbirdmedia’s picture

I will see you saturday.

peterx’s picture

Interested in different ways to theme? As in using various base themes and add on modules to let you theme a site without writing code. I am considering running another free introductory Drupal workshop on December 4 at Wahroonga. We will work on a test case. One site. All the ways to implement themes for the site.

You can interview the Web site owner before the workshop. Draw up wild ideas. The workshop is mainly about moving the theme details out of the theme code. We need a range full range of useful examples to discuss and it is easier to compare the approaches if they are all for the same site.

I have a bunch of domain names that can be attached to the site, giving use the option of running up multiple themes for site by side comparisons.

Limit 6 people.

There is great caffeine within walking distance.

Hi

I'm in the process of launching a company/site online. I have a tech person involved who recommended we should use Drupal,
but would like to learn some myself. Many years ago I worked in the field but more on the user face side of things...
I know nothing about Drupal.
I will be in Sydney between March 1 and April 6. Then Tokyo april 7-June 30 and then Europe until late Sep.
I would need some training as soon as possible and came up with the idea to look for some kind of course, work shop or training while I am in Sydney.
Hope someone can guide me in the right direction

I can help out evenings or saturdays in that time. If you have space in the city or want to visit here in the north. Anyone else want to form a small group? Intro to Drupal. All aspects including setting up an example site.

Anna Cei’s picture

Hi
Thanks for quick reply Peter!

I'm flexible with my time, but I work around the globe and will be in Australia only between Mar 1 and April 6.
Right now I'm in the US, and April 7th I'm leaving for Tokyo.
I do not live in Australia or have an office set up. I'm also very flexible with traveling around Sydney, as long as it can be with public transportation,
but wont have a lap top even.
However, I'm fine with a few demo sessions and can prepare questions or problems I'm struggling with or something of that nature.
what do you think?

you are more than welcome to email me at
