Most probably not all content types need block capabilities (maybe just one) and in case one has many content types each one has to be disabled separately.

It's annoying enough that I have to add regions on each type!

Current default behavior is odd-- on but no regions, which results in it there on node-edit and set-able via admin/build/blocks-- but not set-able on node forms (and will indeed cause an error ...).

Best would be a screen to enable/disable all types, on at a time-- shown on install, and available as an admin screen.

Yes I know-- someone's got to code it!!!
