2009 Open Source CMS AwardPackt Publishing, the company behind many well-known Drupal books, holds an annual Open Source CMS Award that recognizes open source content management platforms and their communities. In addition to bragging rights, winners also receive financial support for their projects in the form of cash prizes. Drupal has historically done very well in this competition, winning the overall award for the last two years running, as well as Best PHP Open Source Content Management System in last year's competition. This record of success is a tribute to the strength and passion of the Drupal community, as the awards are partially decided by popular vote.

In fact, Drupal has done so well in past years that the organizers of this year's award have retired it from eligibility for the overall award, instead pitting it against Joomla! in an all-new Hall of Fame category. In addition, they've created a Drupal Award to allow community members to vote fortheir favorite modules and themes. And if that wasn't enough, Drupal is also eligible for the Best Open Source PHP CMS award. All told, around $6,000 in prize money is at stake.

How can you help Drupal win again this year? Just go to Packt Publishing's Open Source CMS Award Web site before October 30 and cast your vote in the following categories:

And to provide a little extra incentive, three voters who go to the site and fill out a brief survey will also win a free iPod Touch.

There is as well a MVP category.

I casted my vote for a kind Drupal person from the 'shop management', obviously. Pity I could not vote for the full bunch, but such is life.

How does it work?
I don't get it - I've never actually used any other CMSs which makes my vote totally irrelevant right?

deadale’s picture

hey, would have wanted to vote but dont know how..
how does it work??

sp_key’s picture

I understand how it works mate.
I'm just making a point that I find it a very subjective voting mechanism that anyone can vote without even having tried the other products.
I don't know whether the winner depends on who we as users vote but if that's the case then it has no validity to me - just voting for the prize cash.

My understanding is that the public vote is intended to demonstrates the relative strength of each CMS's communities, as opposed to acting as an objective measure of the quality of each CMS. I believe that the public vote is factored heavily in the final result, but it is not the sole criteria used.

lelizondo’s picture

No, the fact you've never used any other CMS means you found the best CMS without having to explore all the options out there. You should try Joomla, WP, Typo3, Xoops, all the nuke(s) for about 2 hours each just to love even more drupal.

I've tried all of them and the last one was drupal, that was 3 years ago, I looked no more. I installed Joomla 2 months ago to see if they fixed all the things that made me move to drupal, just to see it's the same crap.

So your vote just means you've just save yourself months of looking for the best CMS.
