Sorry if this is duplicate to something else somewhere.
I used the 1.0 importer with a lot of success, except that the front page layout was all screwed up. Turned out the imported stories had a bunch of tags that were splitting over the teaser/content border, which meant there were a bunch of open tags in the teasers of the front page stories. Kaboom. The simple fix is to go into the input format setting and add the HTML filtering features to the wordpress input format, but that might break other things.
Just thought I'd share in case that's helpful to anyone else.
