Unable to get Thickbox options to show up in field display and view options for embedded image

I am successful in getting embedded video to show Thickbox: Image Thumbnail->Full Size Video but nothing shows up similar for embedded images. Is Thickbox supported for embedded images without importing, or is importing necessary. It seems I saw another post stating thickbox was working for them with embedded images but I can't figure out how to activate it.
