unfortunately missing a fallback for when user has javascript disabled :(
(fallback to normal select list?)

Please feel free to post a patch if you have something in mind. I'm not currently using this in an environment where I have to account for javascript-disabled users, so I won't be writing any changes to account for this scenario myself.
