Allowing users to sign up in teams

Hay fam,
I was wondering if there was a way to allow users to sign up for online tournaments by teams. Here is a link to an old tournament I was in, which is kind of what I had in mind: http://www.gamespot.com/tournaments/bf2may06/timeslots.php

the signup module is pretty good, but is lacking I think for this kind of thing. I really need to be able to let users pick their team. Any ideas on a module, or how I can do this without a module?

try profile module

you can find it in list of core modules.it is not enabled by default, will be useful to extend user profiles.

organic groups

i'm not quite sure if it would do this sort of thing, but it could be worth checking out if organic groups or related modules have this kind of functionality.
