We've had a site running LIVE! fine for a few months and now, all of a sudden, whenever new content is created and put into new published mode it REMAINS in unpublished. All content refuses to become published regardless if we check off Publish in edit mode.
Is there a posted solution to this that someone could link to? I only noted a couple similar threads through search.

I've got the same issue on a live website (D7.15): it seems after a while the content gets automaticaly unpublished. You can't publish the content using the node edit form. But you can using the actions (publish this content) on the node overview form. But then after a while, it gets unpublished again.
