editor modules not working

Hope this is what's meant by module "development," though I think it is more "install" or "use" problem than not. In any case, I can't get any of the several text editors to work. I'm now using FCKeditor, but tinymce, nicEdit and (I believe) one other one give the same results. The biggest problem seems to be the lack (or my inability) to get any paragraphs in the text. Everything comes out run together . . . unless, through the greatest effort, I am successful in hand-coding the html with

and
in each darn graf. I suspect there is some simple step I've missed somewhere, but it's giving me fits. (I've tried both ways on full and filtered html, by the way. No difference that I can see. Can anyone offer any suggestions . . . . please. . . . { Website is www.pamlicotoday.com }
