In doing some tests related to other issues, I did an upgrade from the 6.x-1.2 version to the 6.x-2.0-beta8 version of the module. After the upgrade, the settings I had configured for what roles could subscribe to what lists had been lost.

Yep, I'm afraid that role settings are not migrated from 1.x to 2.x. See #585896: mailchimp 6.x-2.0-beta1. I inherited a data structure in 1.x that just didn't provide a reasonable upgrade path. If you see one patches, of course, welcome.

BTW, I saw your last patch on the roles/access to lists. Thanks, I'll take a look shortly.
