Devel Generate is a great way to learn the new APIs :)
What totally worked 2 weeks ago is now totally broken in every way.
This patch probably needs some work, and will likely need more work as HEAD continues to change, but it is a start and got the basics working again for me.

Sorry for the delay. Whats still useful here? Been a while. I am guessing not much. Please reopen as needed.

I did this while trying to build http://drupal.org/project/northdrop.
Devel_generate didn't work at all for 7x, this made it kinda, mostly work.
If it is all fixed up now, then hunky dory, else I suggest applying this patch to at least get it closer.
