Maybe it could be useful for this module to behave in such a standardized way, and allow the encryption settings necessary, to function with another encryption system. This other system could be another Drupal site running this module or another implementation of AES altogether.

I'm talking about encrypting a piece of data in this module, then transmitting it to another system and being able to decrypt it there (and the other way around of course).

I'm not sure of how many would find this useful though, and it might be hard to implement, so discussion on this is very welcome (as with all things).

Hey @easyfit, do you have maybe a use case? It seems like sending data might be a little structure; maybe a private/public key pair system or OAuth.
