In an old version of site verification I try to use the Google meta-tag. I was unsuccessful so out of expediency I use the HTML file. My problem is the meta-tag shows on the first page of the website. I am unable to find where it lives I would like to delete it some way.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you are using the actual Site verification module (not the Nodewords/Meta tags sub-module), you go to admin/build/site-verify and you should see a verification for Google. You can either edit it to remove the meta tag or delete it to remove the verification altogether.
