If I click the 'manage form' tab (admin/content/node-type/function/form)
I simply get a white screen.

Drupal is 6.14

Do you have a error log for php?

danielb’s picture

If I did I would fix it myself.

Good news is that it actually did put my node forms into columns. I just can't access the page to configure it.

I can browse through the code see if I can find anything - that's how I fix all my own white screens :( Stupid server admins banning developers from logs :(

Sorry, It's hard for me to help you with this without any debug info. Total WSOD-bugs are noticed pretty quick, and the 1.6 version has been out for about a month now, and is used on about 400 sites. So there must be something specific to your environment that's causing this. An ancient PHP version, conflicting modules or something else.

foreach ($placements as $name => &$opt) {

There is a reference on this line which doesn't play nice on my server.

What PHP version do you have?

danielb’s picture

4.4.0

The purpose of the website I am building is to document/map what must be done to upgrade software on our other servers to PHP 5, by constructing a tree of nodes (hence the node form optimisations I desire) representing the software like an api doc. But currently they're all running 4, and I have no choice in that.

I changed the code in that foreach to this:

<?php

  foreach ($placements as $name => $opt) {
    $field = 'field_' . $name;
    $placements[$name]['region'] = $values[$field . '_region'];
    $placements[$name]['weight'] = $values[$field . '_weight'];
    if (isset($values[$field . '_hidden'])) {
      $placements[$name]['hidden'] = $values[$field . '_hidden'];
    }
    if (isset($values[$field . '_collapsed'])) {
      $placements[$name]['collapsed'] = $values[$field . '_collapsed'];
    }
  }

?>

Should do the trick I think.

Should work yeah. I haven't looked at the diff, but I guess that I just used:

$opt['region'] = $values[$field . '_region'];

...before. Which is less verbose, but if your change gives us PHP4 compat. that's a pretty low price to pay. I just never consider PHP4 when coding.

I haven't encountered any more troubles since making that change. Yeah you had used the $opt reference to assign the vars.
