Issue Summary
Hello,
As of posting, this module uses flag of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an icon for Arabic language. Many software packages do so.
Arabic is a pluricentric language, and s spoken by people living on a vast area of land and by some in non-Arab countries. Using the flag of any given country will likely be inconvenient for many.
Please use the abstract attached icon instead as an apolitical indicator to "Arabic". I have created it myself and dedicated it to the public domain, and it's incorporated into several FOSS projects.
The icon is simply the first letter of the name of Arabic language in Arabic.
If the need arises, others could add flags of certain countries to indicate local varieties.
Personally, I find the association of languages to flags of political entities a very absurd idea.
Thank you,

I have solved this issue by replacing the ar.png flag in the module with flag of Iraq, as my web site is and Iraqi based web site. I think there should be a setting in the module which allow for presentation by country or language for each selected language.
Such as
Language [Arabic] of [Iraq]
Language [English] of [UK]
Language [French] of [Canada]
Language [Spanish] of [Chile]
Language [German] of [Austria]
So the module will compare the selection before introducing a flag.

@ koyanumi: Good news! Something like that will be available when #435190: Using Country Icons is done. =)
@ agharbeia: Hm. I'm going to poke alaa and have his say on this, seeing as he's in charge of the Arabic Drupal translation project. I don't know much about the issues surrounding the Arabic language, sorry. :/

I agree with Ahmad arabic (and any language used in multiple political entities) shouldn't be represented by country flags. the attached Icon is adequate.

Thank you for the (very!) quick response, Alaa! And I'll replace the flag later today. :)

After running it through pngcrush (
-force -brute -fix -reduce -rem alla -res 72 -rem allb), thus shaving off almost 75% (74.43% to be more precise) of the file size, I committed it to both 6.x-2.x and 6.x-1.x. Thank you for your contribution! =) (And sorry about it taking a bit more than a day... :/)#6
