Issue Summary
front page post? Where is it? I still not see it..
Comments
#1
where is the draft?
#2
My English is not that good to write a front page post about whitehouse.gov using Drupal.
I do not think that this is a minor issue.
#3
To be promoted to the front page someone has to write a draft and place it in the forums.
Please see: http://drupal.org/front-page-schedule
If you aren't writing it who is?
When a draft or a forum thread is complete, please provide a link to the forum post so that it can be reviewed for promotion.
Marking as won't fix for now. This can be reopened when a draft/forum thread is provided by those responsible for the site in question.
#4
you can't be serious. This is the Drupal news of the year. GO AND WRITE THE POST!
#5
Without knowing exactly how the site was built noone but the developers of the site can write the post. If you would like to see a story of this site on the front page please locate and contact the developers of the site.
remarking normal and won't fix. Please do not alter the status or priority until such time as a draft of the story is ready to be promoted to the front page. Thank you for your understanding.
#6
DRAFT:
whitehouse.gov using Drupal
I think this will be enough
#7
That is NOT enough. Please read the linked node explaining how to get a post on the front page of drupal.org.
Thank you.
#8
The above quoted from: http://drupal.org/front-page-schedule
#9
Besides-- i wouldn't be surprised if it were soon replaced with a .net monstrosity in much the same way as recovery.gov. All it's probably waiting for is some senator's nephew to land an absurd $18 million dollar contract to do so. :-(
#10
crossposted-- resetting priority.
#11
It is a shame that people will read this news somewhere else. That is my opinion..
#12
That may be but it is not the responsibility of drupal.org site maintainers to write up the showcase nodes. If the developers of the site in question were interested in having a showcase node promoted to the front page, they would have created one.
#13
Seems the washington post has already announced it: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/24/AR200910...
#14
@Pasqualle: Chill out. It was just announced today and we don't have paid news writers on drupal.org. Someone will get it taken care of. We all want this to go out soon, so relax.
#15
Just to note there is a duplicate issue http://drupal.org/node/613716
where I noted that TechPrez already has a write up here:
http://techpresident.com/blog-entry/whitehousegov-goes-drupal
#16
I don't see a need to won't fix this. We want this article to happen, so let's leave it open until someone writes it (hopefully soon) so we can coordinate and get it promoted.
#17
Yahoo has the story here http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091024/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_web_site_2
Just to be sure I confirmed it at http://isthissitebuiltwithdrupal.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.whitehouse.go...
I hope this doesn't follow www.recovery.gov in switching to .NET. OpenSource needs a lobby in Washington.
#18
There is no need to rush this. The word is already out. I would immensely prefer a well written article with contributions (if possible) from someone from the new whitehouse.gov team, even if it takes a few days to write.
Is someone in contact with that team?
#19
I still think waiting is a very bad idea. If you know a world news you need to say it as soon as possible. And I still think "whitehouse.gov using Drupal" is absolutely enough for now. Who needs the details?
#20
I somewhat agree with Pasqualle about this - the problem, though, is that people will be expecting more. We can have a story that says "White House Uses Drupal" but when visitors click that link, there's really nothing there of value - since right now, we don't know enough about it.
It's a shame that the developers of the whitehouse site didn't announce it to us eariler.
So who needs the details? A lot of people. At least, they'll want them.
#21
Ok, I have contacted the White House about this issue. I am curious if I get any response..
#22
This story has already been placed on the front page schedule by Amazon for 10/27 (at least that's what I'm assuming "Major site launch in Drupal - details to come" is referring to). I'm certainly open to promoting the story earlier if it's ready before Tuesday, but I think we should wait until some of the folks involved in consulting on and building the site (who include Acquia and Phase 2) have had the opportunity to weigh in.
#23
I agree that creating a showcase without to be able to write the details about the adopted modules, and other details is something probably not desired.
I would expect a showcase on Drupal.org to be able to report such details; differently, the article would not be different from any news articles we can already read on other web sites.
#24
Get over worrying about the details and put up a brief announcement. This is the biggest acknowledgment any open source software has received. O'Reilly has written it up http://radar.oreilly.com/2009/10/whitehouse-switch-drupal-opensource.html
People will come to drupal.org to see if it's true.
#25
hmmm-- exactly who are you ordering to write an announcement?
#26
The story without details has been already reported by many sites. To be the last ones to report the news, and say the same things said in the other sites doesn't help anybody.
I would then expect that people will look for a confirmation at the White house web site, not here. In which way would Drupal.org confirm that Whitehouse.gov is really using Drupal?
#27
Agree with Pasqualle - we need acknowledgment on the front page asap. I just came for confirmation and had to search to get it.
#28
Assigning to myself.

#29
If you want to know who made the site, Oreilly had the scoop:
#30
I'm much more interested in seeing a juicy case study than getting a repeat of short news I've already seen on 6 different RSS feeds.
It's an important story, but important enough to be done well and a short fanboy ejaculation doesn't help.
Dries & Kieran are on it ... looking forward to the real scoop!
#31
The post is going through internal review first. Will keep everyone posted.

#32
Still being reviewed and approved internally. This post continues to be on track. I'll update the date accordingly as I get more info.
#33
Things are moving slower than we would like. But we want to welcome these folks to be contributors to the community, not just users, and that's taking a little more time to work through. Shooting for later this week now.
#34
I trust you're on it, and can only imagine the bureaucratic hoops that may be standing in the way with NDAs etc, but it's be nice to see something about it sometime... :-)
#35
How tight is the security at whitehouse.gov ? People like to hack those types of things. If it was hacked that would suck for Drupal.
#36
Let's go with this: http://vimeo.com/7669508 on the front page.
Let's launch Thursday after the Drupalcon SF announcement.
