Issue Summary
I think the syntax of the tag has a poor design. It should be more human-oriented, maybe with attributes like in HTML (for example: sort="random"). What do you think?

This is precisely what 6.4 will bring ;-)
And no, the current system is not poor. It has been useful while there were few parameters in the BG tag. You don't want to type much if you just want to quickly insert a gallery or two in your page. But BG is getting more complex, and clever, so the tag syntax will improved.
I'll update this thread as soon as there's progress on this.
