Ubercart badly needs to speak British English!
UK-based companies do not want to look unprofessional with sites that use words like 'check' (the most obvious one).

I don't know enough about Drupal translation to know whether UC can provide this and have it work without there being a core en-GB translation.

I think the best thing to do would be to get an en-GB translation going through http://localize.drupal.org. Localizing isn't something the core code should be doing.

AFAIK localizations of contrib modules sit inside the contrib module: see http://drupal.org/node/11396 and http://drupal.org/node/303984

Therefore, this issue should be used for Brits to build a PO file that can eventually be committed to UC.

However, one question remains: will Drupal recognize a language code of 'en-GB'?

EDIT: killes tells me on IRC that the language code should be fine: 'you can probably use "woogawooga"' ;)

heh, well, afaik, anyone can provide .po files through CVS, but it's not something we intend to do. We actually intentionally don't package up .po files in official releases and direct people to instead download their appropriate localization from an l10n server. To date, that's been at http://l10n.privnet.biz, but nowadays that work's happening on the site I linked above.

Me "won't fix"ing this doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't happen, but it's not really a bug with Ubercart or something that I think needs to be handled through the queue.

No worries - I'm not sure I really know the workflow for using the localization site myself. Some people have committed .po files here, others have done them through these two servers. Centralizing work on a translation server seems to be best for long term maintenance of the translations.

In case anyone was wondering, http://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/en-gb now has most of the strings that matter in ubercart translated into British English.

To install
Switch on the "locale" module, then go to admin/settings/language/add, add your language (e.g. en-GB for British English, but you can call it what ever you like). Then make it the default language at admin/settings/language/overview, You can go to admin/build/translate/search to search for and translate strings manually.

You can save a bit of time by going to http://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/en-gb page, and "exporting" the data for the ubercart project, and then importing those files into your new languages. Strings will be updated immediately.

Thanks for posting the instructions to the localize site. That's a huge help!

There's a few strings I still have to moderate.

In particular, I am not sure about 'eCheck' -- is that a trademark or a technical name for a product? If that is the case, it shouldn't be changed.
