Anonymous user gets empty results with Taxonomy: Term ID (with depth) argument

I have a view which shows upcoming events based on taxonomy. The custom 'admin users' group, and authenticated users receive the view as expected. However, anonymous users get empty results. Access to the view is unrestricted.

The view is being called programatically with $view->preview() in page-taxonomy-term.tpl.php . Other views are also being called in this manner, and do work for the anonymous user. However, I have another view that is using Taxonomy: Term ID (with depth) that is also returning empty results for anonymous users.

To try to troubleshoot, I created a page view and passed arguments in the URL. Same behavior: works for all but anonymous users. I also tried the 6.x-2.x-dev release (this was last week, though, so not the Oct version). The result was the same. I have included the exported view below:
