I am using the module PrivateMsg at my site www.mobilityfreak.co.il . Working great in 99% of what we need. The 1% missing is the thing of getting email notifications when you have a new private message. Users are asking for that, and I am trying to find where they are supposed to set this in their profile (as said in the module documentation page) and just cannot find it.

Can someone spread some light?

5.x-3.x does not have support for mail notifications. Either use a patch like #236667: My patch for email notification of private message or (what I strongly suggest but I know it's not easy) consider switching to Drupal 6 which does have that feature as a sub-module.
