Somewhere, maybe in the CSS the location of the Google logo and the scale line need to be set to *NOT* occupy the same space in the map area

this problem occurs in Google Chrome Windows & Linux, firefox windows and linux, IE - Unknown - (Ie 7 wont even show the map, it crashes in openlyaers js file VML.js )

tmcw commentedPlease file a bug report for this upstream at OpenLayers.org - this is a problem with the underlying javascript library (likely a result of Google changing their minds). As far as your IE7 problem, check that you are using the most recent version of OpenLayers 1.x dev, I committed a workaround for the problem you're likely having recently.
