I am having a little difficulty understanding whether this is possible or not. I am using HostingRails.com shared webhosting, which I believe is based on dreamhost. I have shell access. I would like to have URLs like drupal.org/node/12, but I have drupal.org/?q=node/12
Somebody mentioned that google will not spider addresses like that, so I need to get it cleared up. I don't need you to do it for me, I just need pointing in the right direction.

thanks!

I'm very sorry! I just checked mysite.com/node/11 and it works. I only need to make this the default behaviour. Can you help with that?

If you look under administer » settings you should see a setting for "Clean URLs" under General Settings. Enable this and you should be good to go.

Hi Richard. Thanks for stopping by.

I have found the option now. It is set out quite strangely, don't you think? I hadn't bothered to look at the radio-buttons which were grayed out. I had to click the link to 'Test friendly URLs' below it to enable the option. That was in pretty small text, too!

But panic over, now. Thanks so much for your help.
