OK, I'm not sure if my subject conveys what I'm after. I am creating a site for a sorority, and they want a section for alumnae. It should have the option of being restricted by role. They want it to be like a meeting place for alumnae and for each alumna to have her own blog etc. Any ideas on the best way to accomplish this?

I also need to build a site with some static public pages and a contact form, but also a secure area for authenticated users where all the fun dynamic content (blogs, forums, groups) happens. I've spent quite a while searching and reading, and there are many ways hinted at but little direct instruction. Can someone tell us what's worked for this?
