I am wanting to use Drupal 4.7 or 4.6 if needed for the following project I am working on.

I've done some research on Drupal and am not quite sure if it is able to be done. I don't have hosting to install Drupal and run my own tests.

Basically, I like a few things that MySpace lets you do. Specifically, adding of the friends and the profile abilities.

I am wanting to start a community where people can have their own profile with a journal and the ability to add other friends.

The other catch is that I'll need music artists only pages as well. Another feature similar to MySpace. My community should have a lot of underground artists that sign up and post their music, etc.

So, I am just wondering if that is possible for me to do with Drupal.

I appreciate anyone who makes a response in regard to my questions and I apologize if I appear to be a daft fool for asking.

I think this is what you are looking to do, and it is ran on Drupal.

Yes. That is EXACTLY what I am looking to do. Just my site is for a very specific genre of music.

I am not sure who's site that is, but I do know they are on here often.

maybe someone else know's, that way you can see what modules and if they had to customize any code.

Project Opus has created some custom modules to get all of this functionality (like the artist and regular user signin). But, they are giving it back to the community. You can check it out here.

If you wait/work with them you might be able to get the code quicker to help you launch your site. Good luck.

Couldn't help but wonder if you wasn't a juggalo, Rider, but to answer your question a little more specifically, were I you, I'd simply use the organic groups module, since this will allow you to create groups who, in turn, can create exclusive content. This allows you to restrict access to content based on permission.

Otherwise? Currently I'm working on a project to convert Faygoluver's Heaven, which is a fairly decent-sized site for fans of Insane Clown Posse and the other acts that fall into their orbit, to use Drupal, and the working spec is more or less identical to what you describe (no idea how it compares to myspace, but then what I've heard of it suggests its something I probably don't want to know about =).

Otherwise? What you describe is fairly simple to do.
