My apologies if this is underway, or if there is information out there I have not seen. Is a 4.7 version of this module planned or in the works?

I'm afraid there is no 4.7 version yet - I generally wait till there is a really stable new version of Drupal out before converting my modules and 4.7 will require a lot of work.
In addition, I have pretty much broken my existing 4.6 version since I am working on a new feature: the ability to load a new taxonomy from a Freemind map.
If you can wait around I do indeed plan to produce a 4.7 version in the not too distant future!

I have tried the Freemind module with Drupal 4.7.3. The module is version 1.2, dated may 21, 2006. I have tried several times to create a *.mm file, but every time nothing happened: a blank page was shown and no file was created on the server or send to the webbrowser. Is this expected behaviour and should we wait for the updated module? Or should I report another issue?

By the way, I would love the possibility of having an import option as well!

There is a 4.7 version available for download from the modules - in principle it should work if not let me know. I'm currently working (very slowly) on a completely new version of the module which will take advantage of the new features in Freemind - I'm hoping this way to create a real graphical interface for the manipulation of taxonomies. But it will take time!
