I have some news articles that are dated earlier than the ones i have on the site already. Is it possible to insert these articles somewhere before the latest ones?

You can edit the date and time of the article. I assume this will be reflected on the front page.

If that does not work, you could set up a view for your articles and set that view as your front page.
