Huge memory consumption after site migration to other host

vertazzar - November 2, 2009 - 15:41

After I moved files and database to other host, with performance logging I measured memory consumption, and its like 2 times more than on previous hosting.

So, on previous hosting memory limit was 96 MB and average pageload memory consumption was 33 mb. Now on new host, with also 96 MB php mem limit, pageloads consume 50-60 mb pageload.

What appears to be the problem?

I was using www.anhosting.com -> previous
And now www.justhost.com ..

Really don't understand what consumes my memory I checked database logs and there's nothing. Files are on root folder, because its on primary domain.

Although, pageloads are faster than on anhosting, like 1.5 sec to 3 sec average where anhosting only provided 2.5 sec to 2 min

Modules and everything else is fine, so IF it worked on anhosting with no problems, than why it doesnt work the same on this one ?

Thats 123 including system modules

- Database was exported with backup_migrate, and imported via phpmyadmin
- Files were compressed and downloaded with Cpanel
- And everything tested on localhost giving the same stats as on anhosting.

Same for me

walkerand - November 17, 2009 - 12:52

I've just moved to JustHost and I have the same problem. My site works fine on my local dev PC with a 64M limit. I copied my site using the same procedure as you onto live and it just wouldn't work - kept hitting the 64M limit on every page of the site. I got them (after some arm-wrestling) to up the limit to 128M and it now works fine.

I really don't know why the memory consumption is higher. I have the same modules running with exactly the same configuration. If anyone has any ideas I'd like to know!

They have some algorithm for

vertazzar - November 17, 2009 - 15:29

They have some algorithm for memory consumption, just they can have something that can bug you, its not that just they're giving *everything* unlimited, they have their own tricks. But i have my own.

There's a cpanel bug which you can use to set any number of memory limit.. its simple:

when they create php.ini (only 64 mb limit which is READ only file and you cant change permissions) file on your hosting, you make yours on your computer with setting example " 256 MB " and all you have to do is to upload your php.ini file from your computer via cpanel uploader, with overwrite-file checked. And it will overwrite the current setting.

Maybe its not a bug, but it works for me.

you should've never moved

you should've never moved from ANHosting to Justhost, that's a big mistake.

1) Justhost is a new provider, who's advertising budgets are out of this world. They pose to be a big huge player in the hostingscene, but frankly they're not.
2) They offer unlimited hosting. I've never heard of an unlimited HDD, or unlimited bandwidth pipes.
3) There are TONS of bad reviews about JustHost on Webhostingtalk.com.
4) Yes, I know the disk and bandwidth limits of ANhosting are silly as well, but at LEAST Anhosting is part of the UK2Group, one of the most respected providers whom are growing like mad.

JustHost is an incapable host. Move out.

ANhosting was a problem to me

vertazzar - November 17, 2009 - 16:18

ANhosting was a problem to me due constant site slowdowns, like 3 hours in a day the pageloads were fine.. the rest average 20sec :/

anyways, Im moving to better hosting which is near my country so I'll get max performance - near datacenters.
