A very useful feature for me would be the option to watch an entire content type, so that whenever a new "Task" is posted, for example, I'd be notified, and I'd also be notified of any comments to that task, all without me having to manually watch it.
Thoughts?

Annakan commentedI second that because It always sound odds to me to have to wait for some content to be posted to be able to watch it ... feels like wanting to be informed of something I already know :)
Kidding aside, it would be a great addition to the watcher capabilities to be able to watch an entire content type, taxonomy or the whole public site.
the only thing would be to aggregate notifications across all nodes since a node could be watched directly AND through its content type AND through its taxonomies.
The module is really well defined and constructed as far as my newbie eye can tell, the only missing thing seems this one to me.
Thanks for the great work.

solipsist commentedI think you should consider using Notifications and Messages. Watcher has the advantage of being considerably easier to use than these two together, but they already support watching a wide range of things, including taxonomy terms and content types. I may implement this at some point, but it's not likely.

Annakan commentedThanks a lot for your answer.
They do but they require a LOGGED in user and that's a plague in most non-community oriented websites :)
I am looking for a module that would allow an anonymous person to subscribe to a notification with a mail and receive a confirm link for that adress and then notifications.
But in the end this touch the topic of lightweight users.

drubbI love the simplicity of this module, compared to other frameworks. That's the main reason I'm using it. But watching content types would be a great feature for me, too. I don't think there should be an automatic subscription, leave this to the user, but the ability to get notified when a new content of type xy is created would be great. User would get a mail and decides whether to watch this content or not. This shouldn't be too difficult to implement, just a new mail template and some options in module / user settings, or not?

Boris

anybodyI agree and change the version to 7.x because 6.x is outdated. For 7.x this feature would still be very nice!
