Description
I've spent a lot of time trying to get ddblock to work (on different installs, following different tutorials), but even in the most basic form it's not showing any images.
I both tried rc6 and the dev version.
I still don't have a clue what could be wrong.

Can you describe what you want to accomplish?
What did you try?
What are the issues?
Please post one case per issue, you can make as much issues as needed.
Do you have a link to the Internet site?
Please provide this information so I can help you better.
I set version to RC6, the dev version is only for testing new functionality.
Hope this helps you further, please let me know.

I had the same problem. I was using the dev version because it's been almost 9 months since the last release and the dev is only 2 months old. After reading this, I decided to downgrade and it immediately started working. So it looks like the dev version is broken.

#guaka, make this a support request.
#2 when you want to test new functionality in th dev version an find bugs please make a new issue for this.
#3 There are numerous issues in the issue queue you can follow, but it is better you give more information about your particular issue, so I can help you better.

@ppblaauw: Filing a new issue to say nothing more than "it doesn't work" isn't terribly helpful. I was simply confirming that the advice in #1 to downgrade to RC6 solves the problem. I do apologize that I misread the original post that says he tried RC6 so I guess my confirmation was of no help to the original poster.

#5 Thank you for explaining.
The Dev version of the module should also work, although it needs another download of additional upright10-60 ddblock themes and other related downloads. DDblock themes for the dev version and RC6 are NOT compatible.
Rc6 is the latest version for use, the dev version is for testing new functionality and this version will change more often with all related upgrading todo.
I agree posting an issue for the dev version (where I add new functionality), which says it doesn't work is not very helpful, but when you decide to help testing new functionality, please make another issue for the dev version with explaining information.
Also change this to a support request, like said in #4. That is what this seems to be.

Ah, that was probably the problem, then; I didn't download anything extra. I simply followed http://ddblock.myalbums.biz/quick_configuration_in_10_steps which works on RC6 but not the dev. At this point, I'm not planning on using ddblock. I installed it to try it out but it is way more complex than I want to try and figure out for my simple needs. If my needs change, I'll give it another try.
Thanks,
Michelle

#7 For the basic usage, describe in http://ddblock.myalbums.biz/quick_configuration_in_10_steps of the dynamic display block module you don't need to download themes at all and this should work in the development version also.
I don't know what your simple needs are, but you can find a comparison of slideshow modules at: Comparison of Rotator / Slider modules
Hope this helps you further, please let me know.

I just need something to display some images with text overlaid. The contents will be pretty static so I don't need to pull from views or anything fancy. I'm thinking of just using http://webdeveloperplus.com/jquery/featured-content-slider-using-jquery-ui since that's the look I want and the closest thing with ddblock is a commercial theme.
As for the dev version, I don't know what to tell you. I followed that quick configuration page and it didn't work. I came here to search the queue, found the response here in #1, and took the advice to switch to RC6. I made no other changes, just refreshed the page, and it started working. But trying to get the look I want seems quite daunting and there's a lot of features I don't need. I'm sure this is a fine module and I may come back to it if I decide I want something more flexible, but I think just using a script will do it for me for now.
Thanks,
Michelle

Had a look at your account. I see now that you are using drupal already for a long time and that you created several modules. I see now you are the Michelle which I saw before in other posts (more drupal.org maintenance related)
Thanks for explaining your needs and I had a look at the link you give. Ok, looks like a good solution.
Looks pretty much like the what we have in our How To: How to create a basic slideshow from one node with extra info although our "how to" offers only a number or prev next pager. So if you need the pager-items like in the "Create Featured Content Slider Using jQuery UI" that probably is a better solution for you.
About the themes for the ddblock module:
There are at the moment 14 free ddblock themes for the advanced option of the dynamic display block module, more will be donated in the future.
When you have the time, you could study them and create your own themes for the ddblock module, or just make the adjustments to an existing ddblock theme.
By purchasing a commercial theme you have more choices and it saves you the time for development and testing it for different browsers. Also the commercial themes can be adjusted, so they give a headstart in creating your ultimate layout, which would also fit perfectly with your overall theme.
Hope this helps you further, please let me know

Thanks, I appreciate you going above and beyond to help me. Please don't take me not using ddblock as a slight against the module. If I were trying to pull from content dynamically, I'm sure it would be excellent. But all I need is 3 "slides" with information about the site that don't need to be content and making a node type and putting the info into a node is way overkill for me.
The commercial themes do look very nice but it's hard to justify paying for things for a hobby site when I have no income of my own. So I end up spending time rather than money to make things work.
Good luck with the module. I may be back some day if I decide to do something more dynamic. :)
