I'm trying to nest external links under a menu. I created a top level menu for "Blogrolls", and then underneath, added three menu items, "Grassroots", "Friends" and "Member Favorites". Under each menu item, I created sub-items, those being external links to outside websites.
I think my problem lies in what path I should use for those top three menu items, since they don't actually lead anywhere. If I click on the "Expanded" box, all of my children items under that menu show up, but if I don't, I can't get them to show up by clicking the top menu item, as I thought they would.
What am I doing wrong? Please help.

I think so too.
I'm a real newbie..
So where should they point? (other than the front page, where they point now.)

I think I know what it is. Since your top alternativ (the start page) is already "occupied" by the menu system, it doesn't work. You have to point the links assigned to Friends of Gore, Grassroots etc to their own unique page(-s) and thereafter it should behave the way you want it to.
The menu system does have it quirks and especially the behavior to close all menus instead of staying in its present state when one follows a link to a page which isn't assigned to the menu system from the present page (which is assigned to the menu).

for me worked: "Edit the menu and input the FULL URL PATH. ie, instead of just node/100 type in www.domain.com/node/100"
