How to avoid dependency on wysiwyg ?

Description

The previous versions of autosave did not need wysiwyg and it worked fine.
I, like many others, do not need any rich text editor but do need autosave.
It is sad that this excellent module in not making to D7 core while autosave is a standard inbuilt feature in the other cms without having to install multiple modules, patch etc.

Is it possible to use this without wysiwyg, without increasing the module load with yet another module to install for this one to work? For the records, autosave worked fine as it was except http://drupal.org/node/479110

Is it possible to implement just the workaround for the above (Autosave should not prompt after a manual save) to the previous version so that the newer dependency can be avoided, please ?

i thought the latest rel didn't require wysiwyg.. have you actually tried it and found that not to be tru

ahh, there is likely a dependency in the .info file stating that; but dont thinkl any code that actually requires it.

i'll try it later tonight - the intent was not to require wysiwyg; only that if you use a JS editor it would need to be supported through wysiwg.
