I wrote the patch in http://drupal.org/node/622622#comment-2223454 to expose the units defined by UnitsAPI to the Unit module. (For use with MVF/CCK, etc.)

It would be nice if the units admin screen suggested installing the UnitsAPI module if there are no units available.

I think recommending users to mess with patches in module UI is bad idea. I can instead mention this on project page. That would be better: most users don't use patches, and advanced users that do may as well read about it on project page when they download the module.
