I wanted to know if there is some module available in drupal or at-least under development which helps ( in a social networking site) to get the friends activity feed?

You might want to checkout the Activity module.

The world can always use more Facebook-like web sites. ;-)

The problem with Activity is that it's good for site-wide activity but not your friend's activity on the site pulled all into one page for you.

Heartbeat has a bit more flexibility in that regard but is still not perfect. :(
