I've not seen something so obviously an ad ("available now from our store" and our store is a link) on the planet before -- is this acceptable?

avpadernoI am not sure it would.
Dave Reid is taking care of writing some guidelines for what is acceptable in Planet Drupal feed. I think that a reference to this could help.

dave reidThanks for reporting this. I'll contact the site owners and let them know that advertisements like that are not appropriate for the planet.

bonobo commentedFYI: I was contacted as the site owner on this; this is not accurate.
I'm not the site owner. As seen in #507938: Add to Agregator feed I added the feed to the planet. The user has done some work in education, and in the past has been active in the education group.
His user ID is http://drupal.org/user/67038 --
FWIW, if someone is adding advertising to the planet, I'd recommend removing the feed, contacting the publisher, and only adding the feed after they have responded in a positive way.
Dave's email, despite going to the wrong person, was a good outreach point. I recommend connecting with the actual site owner, however, as that will be a more effective way of addressing this :)

dave reid@bonobo: My apologies. I thought you were the site owner since you had created the request, but this is why I shouldn't try to do this late at night. :/ I'll contact the correct site owner. Thanks for being understanding in my mistake. :)

dave reidWarned the correct user.

bonobo commentedHello, Dave -- no worries at all. Glad that the author of the feed got notified, and thank you for the time you put in (are putting in) to maintaining d.o --

bonobo commentedAnd there is actually another issue about this here: #502734: Please add feed to Drupal Planet

WorldFallz commented@Dave--
what was the text of the email? The latest planet post also ends in an ad for the theme store:
http://venturacottage.com/tutorials/theming/themeing-tutorial-using-colo...
Is it no ads at all or just not in teaser?
WorldFallz commentedAlso, imo these 'posts' are nothing more than very thinly veiled attempts at free advertising-- the posts are extremely short, contain no meat, and probably take all of 3 minutes to type up (if that).
avpadernoDoes the feed still contain posts that seem advertising?

gregglesAccording to chromium the site now has malware. This was confirmed by codi and heyrocker though the online tool says there is not a problem.
If you visit http://drupal.org/aggregator/sources/490 in chrome you probably also get the warning so I have removed the feed to avoid google thinking drupal.org is participating in distributing malware.
I'm very open to having the feed re-added as soon as the malware situation is cleared up. I do agree with the previous comments that some of the posts are a bit heavy on advertising.

dddave commentedClosing this issue. If somebody from venturacottage wants the feed back on the Planet feel free to reopen this issue.
