Module to loop through taxonomy terms and nodes linked to them

For my own development I'd like to write a module which loops though the terms of a vocabulary, then under each child term's name creates a list of links to the nodes referencing that term.

I've done a *tiny* bit of mod development, however I'm trying to get better at it and this is my next bit of practice. What do I need to look for to do the above?
