I searched long and hard for a solution to this and still couldn't locate any solid information.
Why doesn't Drupal support update notifications by e-mail? I manage 7 drupal installations now and it's a nightmare logging into and checking all of them individually. Couldn't the update notification system send an e-mail when a module's version is updated?
Especially in the case of a security update!
Acquia Network currently supports this but honestly, the best services to users, administrators, and the internet in general is to provide this functionality out of the box! Sadly, D7 is frozen, so it will have to be in the form of a contrib module at least until D8.

The update module has been available for two years, and is a standard part of Drupal 6. You have to go out of your way to disable it.

I set my Drupal 6 site to alert me whenever there is a module update. I get at least one every other day since my current site has over 60 modules.

Set it to email you daily or weekly.
