Friendselectric problem

nathanb2 - November 7, 2009 - 14:06

I have installed the Friendselectric theme on one of my sites, www.eugeneflinn.com . It looks fine in Firefox and Opera, but in IE it looks terrible. All the text is way too big, and depending on who's looking at it, either the content in the middle or the right column is pushed all the way down off the screen. It would be great to get a solution to the text appearing too big, but what I really need fixed is the problem with the content dropping down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Friends Electric theme problems

I think you did a great job on your personal mayor site with Friends Electric. Very simple and clean. I experience the same you do on your site when jumping to IE. Firefox is OK, Google Chrome is OK, but ugly on IE.

Please note though that I get that quirky behavior in IE with your site but I do not with mine.

I personally can't solve that problem as to why the behavior in IE but I'm hoping that your exposure to this on the main forum will get some of the wizbangs to look at this and make what are probably some minor adjustment to Friends Electric that will improve it.

I think the reason that many end up trying the Friends Electric theme is that it is mentioned in the FAQ's (http://drupal.org/node/27367) related to the following question. - What theme and modules does Drupal.org use?

After personally fumbling with many themes I liking the look of the the Drupal site assumed it would be safe to go to the one they mention that is somewhat close (originally created by the same guy) to their own.

After fumbling with the godawful boring default themes and experiencing frustrating experiences with many of the contributed themes I naively assumed that since they mentioned it that it would be safe to go to and would probably work very well.

I don't have room here on the main forum to go into all the details and problems that I've run into. Menus not working, fatal errors, and so on. I took the official route and went to the modules page for Friends Electric and posted a few issues. No response to the issues I've posted. Apparently the maintainer and others just aren't that interested in maintaining and updating this theme.

I hope that someone either polishes up this theme or I think Drupal should take mention of it out of that FAQ. I wonder how many have attempted to use this theme (since recommended by Drupal) and become frustrated over theming in Drupal and therefore become frustrated in Drupal overall.

I personally think Drupal is great and am doing my best to consider this a small bump in the road to some very good web sites.

Many will have no sympathy for me and will say that it's my responsibility to know CSS and PHP to fix these issues. For those that feel this way I want them to know that these problems have spurred me into improving my CSS and PHP skills.

That's a good thing.

Thanks Again.
