Disapearing Content/ Whole Section Gone Missing

52pd603 - November 7, 2009 - 16:25

A whole section of my site disappeared yesterday. On my home page and each major city section of my site there was a 'featured article' area at the top of the page that had 5 scrolling articles. It has disappeared. My web designer has been trying to figure this out but can't see anything wrong with the latest new content added (which was a normal article). No settings have been changed by her or me.

Anyone had this type of issue before? If it helps here is a link to my site home page http://www.52perfectdays.com/ . Right above the blog section is where the main articles should be showing up.

Thanks.

I did a quick look at the source of your front page.
The coding on the front page and the panels configuration looks OK.

It is showing the view block for the front featured articles, bit it has no content to display.

The view is probably OK, but for some reason there are no articles to show.

Look at the view and figure out what it is set to display. Then see if you have any content that meets this criteria.

Thanks for the input. I know all the right buttons are clicked on the article pages that should make the articles appear on the home page and cities pages - published, featured, etc. For example this one http://www.52perfectdays.com/articles/oahu-culture-sushi-and-perfect-mai... should be on the home page and oahu page.

So, if the content is published and clicked to display as featured why would all the articles go missing from the home page and 20 city pages?

so odd! Any additional thoughts?

Checked the View

The View is indeed empty when you click the View tab of the edit area. However, there is content that meets the criteria of the View and there are other Views with similar criteria that are working. For example the "More Perfect Days" section at the bottom of the page.

Here is a screen grab of the working More Perfect Days filter settings: http://jaw-labs.com/clients/52/view-working.png

And here are the filter settings for the one that is not working: http://jaw-labs.com/clients/52/view-not-working.png

The two Views above do not use any arguments.

Other Views are also not working, for example the Destinations pages: http://www.52perfectdays.com/destinations/portland

The one difference I see is the two views have different settings for "Featured on the front page".

I was hopeful when I noticed that as well. Unfortunately changing it had no effect.

Scrolling function

52pd603 - November 8, 2009 - 04:52

Could the issue be with the scrolling function?
The feature articles are set to scroll through 5 articles.
It only pulled down the articles that scroll and not the other ones on the page.

Anyone have suggestions?

52pd603 - November 8, 2009 - 20:02

We are stumped. There is definitely content that fits the criteria of the View. Checked that and checked the Panel and all is fine there. I really can't fathom why certain Views would suddenly stop working like that. It doesn't make any sense. Especially when other views with almost identical criteria are working just fine.

Could adding photos cause the issue

Any chance adding photos could be part of this issue? Added two different sized photos-- same as usual. But, just wondering if that could have contributed to the issue.

Suggestions for a different module

52pd603 - November 10, 2009 - 06:35

Anyone have suggestions for a compatible module we can use for the section to see if something else can be implemented?
One that doesn’t have the scrolling function?

Figured this out.

j.a.w. - November 10, 2009 - 10:48

A few days ago we turned off the Forward module due to excessive email messages overloading the server. The affected Views all had a blank field that previously held the Forward link. Once I removed the blank field from the View all returned to normal. I now wish I had posted a screen grab of the entire Views setting page instead of just the Filters section. Lesson learned. Thanks to dougzilla and nevets for taking the time to help.

Glad you managed to figure it out

You folks ever going to take this into the world of D6 or 7 even?
Whenever I look at the D5 views interface now it feels so foreign.

6 is the plan...

j.a.w. - November 15, 2009 - 01:58

We are working first on getting 5 properly up to date and working again (some other issues cropped up). I am working almost exclusively with 6 now so, yes, it's painful to go back in time. Especially with Views. I'd forgotten about all the things that can't be done with 5.

I still have some d5 sites

dougzilla - November 15, 2009 - 02:05

I still have some d5 sites out there and one 4.7. Still chugging along.
