Imagefield Module Deactivated on Update

I just updated imagefield (and linkimagefield) and wanted to report that after running update.php both of these modules were turned off which caused the images to disappear from the site. I'm not sure why an update would deactivate a module but wanted to report it here in case someone else is wondering where all their images went. This also happened last time I updated. The results I expected would be that updating the module would leave it turned on so content doesn't appear broken after an update.
