I'm planning to build a zen sub-theme for a new website that will go live in January. Should I stick with version 6.x-1.1 or is it safe to start with 6.x-2.0-beta1? How soon is 6.x-2.0 likely to be released? If anyone can make a recommendation I'd be grateful.

vacilando commentedI had the same question but for several days did not find an recommendation.
Then I found that the 2.0-beta1 here says "If you have a sub-theme based off of the Zen 6.x-1.x release, your sub-theme will need considerable porting to work with Zen 6.x-2.x. The 6.x-1.x series will continue to be maintained, so its not necessary to upgrade your sub-theme to work with Zen 6.x-2.x."
So on basis of the above, I have decided to start with 2.0-beta1 for a new site!

peacog commentedIt was that statement about the effort involved in porting from 1.x to 2.0 that prompted me to ask the question, because I'd prefer to avoid porting. I think I'm going to go ahead with 2.0-beta1 too.

Tom Ash commentedIs there any 'official' advice on this? Or any estimate as to when there'll be a non-beta version of 2.0?

enbilulu commentedI have to use 6.x-1.1 because in 6.x-2.0-beta1 there is a column problem. I need a website that need 3 column but 6.x-2.0-beta1 dont have column. they have first sidebar and second side bar but they are like below
sidebar1
navigasiyon
sidebar2

johnalbin@enbilulu I've just double-checked and don't see any issues with the sidebar columns in Zen 6.x-2.0-beta1.
The best advice I can say on which Zen to use is what's stated on the release notes:
However, there is an issue with i18n module which you should be aware of. There's a patch that fixes it, but it hasn't been included in the i18n project yet. #457512: i18n blocks creates conflicts with themes and modules that override the theme_blocks function
Also, there is an unresolved issue with Context: #634552: Conflict with context module
But other then those 2 issues, the 6.x-2.x branch is a much better solution, IMO.
