When creating content, I would like to have the input format for the Page node-type default to Filtered HTML AND the Story node-type default to Full HTML.

I cannot locate any obvious swicthes from the admin->settings. Is this at all possible ?

The setting is global, as far as I can tell. I agree that it would be nice to have different default formats per node type or per user role, but I'm not sure how easy this would be to implement. I would suggest searching the issue queue for the drupal core, and if no one else has suggested this feature, post a new feature request.

why subscribe....? Cuz that's the article I found first...and maybe they can benefit from seeing that you've posted a solution.

...and thanks for that. I actually found the filterbynodetype module before you replied and it's working nicely. I'll keep your other module in mind as well.
