The print links can only be seen if the user clicks on the node.

You're not doing anything wrong. That's the way it's supposed to work. The links for this module do not show up in the 'teaser', they only show up in the full node view.

There is a patch in #321128: Print link not in teaser, which I still have to test and merge to the module's code, which should address this issue.
